Recruitment
Recruitment to RMO positions is managed individually by each of the 20
District Health Boards (DHBs). If you don't want to attend the event, you can apply for RMO positions to
the DHB of interest.

All applicants must hold valid registration or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of
New Zealand (MCNZ). Check your eligibility ahead of making an application by visiting the MCNZ Self Assessment tool.
House Officers
House Officer positions are suitable for RMOs who have completed their Foundation Year 1 (F1)
or Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1). House Officers have the greatest exposure to a variety of services,
rotating every 3 months. Once you have completed 2 years of recognised training as a House Officer, you
will be eligible to apply for Senior House Officer and/or Registrar positions.
Senior House Officers (SHOs)
These positions align to single services and are suitable for RMOs who are in their Post
Graduate Year 3 (PGY3) or above. SHOs will typically rotate every 6 months, in line with Registrars.
Registrars
These positions are suitable for RMOs who are in their PGY3 or above. Non-Training or Basic
training Registrars align to a single service and rotate every 6 months. Depending on the service you
are employed by, you may have the opportunity to rotate through sub-speciality departments.
Training positions are allocated by the Australasian Colleges. If you're interested in applying for the
